Sub-Compact Suppression

Have you ever wondered if James Bond’s little suppressed Walther PPK was really that quiet? You know, when he’s dropping KGB agents left and right while saving the world in his Aston Martin during a long weekend in Italy? As you may have assumed, it’s a bit of fiction mixed with reality. Running silencers, or as we like to call them, suppressors on handguns is nothing new. Suppressed firearms have been around in some form since WWI at the very least. Advances in firearm technology have progressed, especially in recent years with companies such as Surefire, SilencerCo, and Dead Air (on top of many others) bringing what used to be the thing of spy novels and covert ops to the “regular” gun owner. Along with the advance in materials, baffle design, and manufacturing technology with suppressors we also observed big leaps in the firearms themselves. From different variations of Glock “Perfection”, the recent leaps in Sig Sauer innovation, as well as the continued style and advance of Heckler & Koch, CZ, and even dependable mainstay Smith & Wesson, firearms tech has come a long way as well. In the past, you couldn’t just plug and play any firearm with a suppressor. Almost all firearms in the past came without threads to attach muzzle devices like a suppressor or a recoil mitigating compensator, also known as “comps”. Threaded barrels used to be rare, with some firearm models never having one produced unless it was a one-off occurrence for a special military purpose. We want to put an end to that at True Precision. We recognize the practicality and need for threaded barrels with today’s shooters. Hearing safety while at the range, while inside your home in a defensive situation, being less annoying to neighbors, and making your firearm much more comfortable and enjoyable to shoot with a compensator are just a few reasons the popularity of suppressors and the need for compatible threaded barrels have surged. In our next blog, we will discuss some things to keep in mind for common firearm/suppressor combos such as short-barreled handguns like the Sig P365, Glock 43, S&W Shield, or Springfield Hellcat with lightweight suppressors as well as other concerns and some tips to keep in mind.
